They have been created in the fascinating areas surrounded by various flora and fauna. Their protected natural wealth is reflected in their indescribable beauty which enchants, refines and inspires. They are called special reserves because they are characterized by nature which remained unchanged, pure and untouched. We are presenting you five areas of significance which you simply have to see in person!

Uvac

Worldwide famous natural reserve doesn’t stop enchanting, captivating and inflaming the senses. It is simply hard to resist to the compound of unrealistic meanders which have been carved by the nature in the most miraculous way and to the most beautiful colors of the crystal clear water of the Uvac Lake. When you add the variety of rare plants and animal species, the biggest cave complex in Serbia and valuable monasteries, you will realize how special this place is.

Its uniqueness also reflects in the three artificial lakes that give the fascinating sight an unusual charm. So you shouldn’t miss the chance to watch the flight of Griffon Vulture, the emerald water that sparkles beyond the sunlight, have a tour around the longest cave system or visit some of the monasteries hidden by this beautiful canyon. Enough reasons to visit Uvac, right?

Deliblato sands

A desert in Europe? It is possible. Prove for that is one of the last remaining deserts on the European soil, settled in the Southern Banat. It is about Deliblato sands, Banat sand or European Sahara. Either way, the unusual place made of sand which was inflicted by the wind for years will surely amaze you. It is a heaven for nature researchers, adventurists, hunter and unusual plant and animal species lovers.

Over 900 plant species and large number of rare animals have found their home here. The unique rarity represent the constant wolf population, but also other animals for which Deliblatska peščara is one of the few remaining habitats in Europe. There are also 20 famous types of orchids, Banat and Step peony, Pančić absinthe and other plants that can be found anywhere but here.

Zasavica

Special nature reserve is one of the last originally saved swamp areas and the only location in Serbia where old animal breeds are kept. Believe it or not, these are all features of only one place- the magnificent Zasavica nature reserve. Eastern of Drina and Southern of Sava, this habitat is rich with eclectic flora and fauna, and for years is inexhaustible soil for researchers and lovers of the unique nature.

Rare and protected plants, endangered taxa and various species that are sorted in the first volume of “The red book of flora in Serbia”, are the real attraction of this place. Second attraction represents more than 25 fish species, 180 bird species and the famous European beaver. Besides that, here you can enjoy camping, ride on the tourist boat and the unique specialty- the donkey cheese.

Sićevo gorge

Between the Northern branches of Suva Mountain and Southern braches of Svrljig Mountains, intersected by the flow of the Nišava River, there is one of the most vivid gorges in Serbia- Sićevo. But, we are not talking about regular gorge surrounded by the beautiful nature. We are talking about the one-of-a-kind Nature Park which has become one of the unavoidable attractions of this part of Serbia because of its geomorphological features and unique flora and fauna.

Besides the unusual variety of animals, Sićevo Gorge is also decorated with rare and endangered plant species. The most famous is, for sure, Ramonda serbica which can only be seen here, in Macedonia and in Greece. The stormy history of this area is also interesting, and their best witnesses are monasteries and churches which you have to visit if you end up in the area of Niš.

Ludaš Lake

Imagine that you have the opportunity to enjoy the lake million years old… It sounds unreal, but you don’t have to imagine anymore. It can become a reality if you visit the lake in the northernmost part of Vojvodina. Outlines of Ludaš, nature has become creating in the far Stone Age, and this lake today represents the special nature reserve and a unique open-air museum.

Here you can bump into a terrapin, meet with the 40 bird species or find a rare Arrow grass. One of the favorite activities of this lake’s visitors is bird-watching, and if you are not a lover of this kind of fun, Ludaš Lake has something for everyone.
