In western Serbia, right by the Drina River and at the foot of Gučevo, lies Banja Koviljača – a place that truly comes into its own in April.
This isn’t a spa you experience indoors. It unfolds outside – through its park, along the river, and up the forested slopes above. As everything turns green and the temperatures settle into that perfect spring balance, Koviljača becomes much more than a wellness stop.
Everything begins in the central park, surrounding the iconic Kur-salon. In April, this space is not just a backdrop – it’s where most of the day happens.

Walking through the main alleys leads you past fountains, sculptures, and old trees, but the real experience starts when you leave the central paths. Smaller trails take you into quieter corners where you can sit facing the greenery or continue toward the exit that leads down to the Drina.
At this time of year, the park feels open, breathable – you can actually move through it without interruption.
From the park, the river is just a short walk away – and the atmosphere shifts immediately. The path along the Drina stretches into a long, flat route perfect for a proper walk or an easy run. On one side, you have the river and its wide, pebbled banks; on the other, greenery and scattered houses.

If you keep going, you’ll reach wider open sections of the riverbank – ideal for sitting, taking a break, or even setting up a simple picnic.
Above the spa rises Gučevo Mountain, and April is the right moment to go up. The trail leads through fresh green forest, and the climb is moderate but rewarding. At the top, near the memorial ossuary, the view opens across the Drina, Loznica, and the wider region.

It’s a short but complete shift in perspective – from park to mountain in less than an hour.
Koviljača works best when you combine a few simple things. Start the day with a spa session or thermal bath while it’s still quiet. Then head outside – walk through the park, continue toward the river, and build your day from there.

For lunch, it’s worth stepping away from the center and choosing a place closer to the river or on the road toward Gučevo – where the setting becomes part of the experience.
Koviljača is also a great base for short trips. Just a few minutes away is Loznica, a small town with a lively feel and good spots for coffee or a casual meal. A bit further, along the same direction, is Tršić, the birthplace of Vuk Karadžić – a reconstructed traditional village where you can walk through Serbian heritage in a very tangible way.

If you want more nature, you can easily extend your route deeper into the Gučevo area or further along the Drina.
April brings the balance that disappears later in the season. The park is in bloom, but still quiet. The Drina is clear and calm. The trails on Gučevo are comfortable – without heat or crowds. Everything fits together naturally – walking, spa, nature, food – without needing a strict plan.
Banja Koviljača in April isn’t about staying in one place. It’s about moving through it – from park to river to mountain. And somewhere along that route, it becomes more than a destination.
