Besides the two authentic Zlatibor crofts, the permanent museum setting consists of the part for fruit preservation and processing, buildings for livestock and Shepherd’s flat. On the 50 hectares wide area, there are over 50 buildings transferred from the surrounding Zlatibor villages. They represent architecture, the way of enterprising and organization of the family lives from the highlands of Serbia.
Kind-hearted hosts will offer you to try out home-made cheese, kajmak, pršuta, heljdopita and other specialties which Zlatibor is known for. Of course, there is also prebranac and sarma.
The thing that also catches the attention of tourists who come to this magnificent place near Zlatibor is the monumental complex of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. This single aisle church is full of icons that date back to 1764. Because of their value and beauty, the monumental complex and “Staro selo” have been under the protection of the law as the cultural monuments of the great importance.
Sirogojno style
From the traditional clothing items of the Zlatibor area, to the modern clothes of high-quality and authentic design. This may be the simplest description of the “Sirogojno style” clothes which lasts more than half a century. Namely, the products of the skilled hands of knitters from Zlatibor have found their place in the windows of the shops in Italy, France, Japan, and the USA during 70’s.
Having managed to keep their traditional motives and cut, they have successfully fitted them in the contemporary modern design and became worldwide known. In the center of Sirogojno village, there is an interesting “Knitter’s museum”. Ethno village “Staro selo” is the one and only open-air museum in Serbia. Because of this fact but also because of the fascinating nature, buildings that preserve the tradition of Serbian village and many other contents, it represents one of the biggest tourist attractions which you shouldn’t avoid if you find yourself in the Zlatibor area.
