Kralja Petra Street attracted the famous BBC, which has recently published a story about a man who owns the last perfume shop in Belgrade.

BBC reporter, Andrew Gray, was fascinated by the fact that one of these stores actually still exists, and had decided to visit it and write a story about the last perfume shop in Serbia’s capital city.

Nenad-blog-6He met Nenad, the owner of the shop, and he started telling him stories about its history that left the reporter speechless. Namely, the perfume shop was opened in 1941, a few months before World War II came to Belgrade.

After the war, the communists had banned private business so his father had to close the shop. In 1954, Nenad’s parents restarted the business and the shop remained in the place where it stands for more than 60 years now.

Among the popular boutiques and a “concept store” selling designer clothes and jewellery, a store that gives something special to this area is definitely this tiny, decades old perfume shop.

He said that a few people walked in the store during his stay, and they were all fascinated and confused just as he was in the first place.

“If they’re not sure what they want, Nenad dips a pump with a long needle into one of those big glass jars, squeezes the rubber handle and sprays scent on to their arms. He sells versions of famous fragrances but isn’t allowed to use their names”.

The store was a part of Belgrade Museum Night, and what is interesting is that this perfume shop is actually a living museum.
