Forest surroundings, refined regional cuisine and the wines of Šumadija shape a memorable dining experience at the summit of Bukulja.
Šumadija Flavours at the Top of Bukulja
Set at the summit of Bukulja, above Aranđelovac and Bukovička Banja, Restoran Bukulja transforms a meal into a rewarding part of a day spent on the mountain. Surrounded by forest and fresh air, it offers a peaceful retreat for visitors arriving after a walk, a drive through the wooded slopes or an exploration of the wider Šumadija region.
The kitchen is rooted in traditional Serbian cooking, but the presentation and combinations introduce a more contemporary sensibility. Breakfast brings familiar flavours such as homemade cheese pie, white-corn kačamak with cheese and kajmak, and grandmother-style fritters served with ajvar, kajmak and jam. The Bukulja and Mangalitsa sharing boards bring together cured meats, local cheeses, kajmak and trljanica, offering an excellent introduction to the generous character of the region’s cuisine.
Among the main courses, local identity is expressed through Bukulja ćevapi made from aged beef with leek and crushed pepper, the substantial Bukulja pljeskavica and a mixed grill intended for sharing. Slow-cooked pork neck is served with baked beans and roasted peppers, while veal cheek, lamb shank, duck confit and smoked trout reveal a more refined side of the menu. Traditional ingredients remain recognisable, but thoughtful preparation gives many dishes a distinctive signature.
Wine is an important part of the experience, with particular attention given to labels from the Šumadija wine region. In warmer weather, the garden allows guests to dine close to the surrounding landscape, while the warm interior creates an inviting mountain atmosphere throughout the colder months. With three double apartments also available, the restaurant can form part of a longer escape into the forests, spa traditions and vineyards around Aranđelovac.
