This little town, that got its name from an old church that the first settlers came upon, looks like it is frozen in time. The peace and the peaceful plains of Vojvodina combined with old historical buildings with baroque facades, beautifully decorated parks and thousands of different kinds of flowers, make you feel like you travelled back a century or two.
The absence of factories further enriches this impression, making the air of this place very fresh and clean, and its excellent geographical location, where rich fertile soil and lush vegetation overlap, make this a unique and attractive place for many tourists.
Such a favourable geographic and demographic location made Bela Crkva the agricultural, economic and cultural canter since the year 1717 when it was founded. More than half of the inhabitants were engaged in viticulture, horticulture and agriculture, and it is known that this area had as many as five silk factories.
In addition to the fertile land, this small town in Banat is also known for its rich history and culture. The style of Viennese Secession (also known as the Union of Austrian Artists) and baroque have left the biggest mark on the cultural and historical buildings, of which many are preserved until today.
If you find yourself in this beautiful place, do not miss an opportunity to visit the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox Church, the museum, House of the Army and many other buildings from the 18th and 19thcentury.
However, what the „Venice of Vojvodina“ is best known for are its beautiful artificial lakes, which were created by digging gravel from the bottom of the Pannonian Sea. This unique experience of swimming, sunbathing, relaxation and entertainment on these crystal clear lakes which are surrounded by Banat’s green plains is something that you will most surely remember.
The complex of the lakes of Bela Crkva consists of five bigger lakes: Glavno (Main) lake, Vračev Gaj (Wizard’s Grove), Šaransko (Carpfish Lake), Šljunkara and Novo (New) lake, as well as three smaller lakes: Jugopetrol, Malo (Little Lake) and Barutana lake, and another one is currently in the process of construction. Each year this unique complex attracts more and more tourists, who like to enjoy well-maintained beaches, water sports and swimming during summer days.
We recommend you first visit the centre of Bela Crkva and enjoy the view of the baroque-style buildings, and then, depending on your preferences, relax on the wild or urban beaches of some of these beautiful lakes.
