Traditional Serbian flavours, generous hospitality and the layered history of Smederevo come together near the walls of its medieval fortress.
A Taste of Smederevo Through the Centuries
Located approximately 500 metres from Smederevo Fortress, Vinceia draws inspiration from the long and eventful history of the city. Its name recalls the ancient Roman settlement of Vinceia, while the restaurant’s concept reflects the many peoples, cultures and culinary influences that have passed through this part of the Danube region over the centuries.
The menu is firmly rooted in Serbian home-style cooking. Traditional appetisers, homemade proja, cured meats and cheeses introduce a selection built around slow-cooked dishes, grilled meat, roasts and specialities prepared under the sač. Veal and lamb, homemade sausages, ribs with kajmak and classic dishes prepared to order create the kind of generous table associated with family gatherings and traditional Serbian hospitality.
The proximity of the Danube is reflected in a varied selection of freshwater fish, including pike-perch, catfish and trout. Cooked dishes, soups and stews add another layer of familiarity, while desserts such as walnut cookies, dried-plum pie and the house chocolate cake provide a simple, traditional conclusion to the meal. Rather than following a narrowly defined culinary style, Vinceia brings together the flavours visitors would expect to encounter on a journey through central Serbia and the Danube basin.
Its traditional ambience and broad menu make the restaurant suitable for travellers visiting the fortress, families, larger groups and guests travelling through Smederevo. Two accommodation units and a spacious parking area – including room for coaches – also make Vinceia a practical stop for organised tours and visitors continuing their journey through the wider region.
