Handmade jewelry, licider (gingerbread) hearts, traditional culinary specialties, paintings, traditional folk costumes or models of different monuments – you just have to choose what you like best. Whatever choice you make, you will be taking home with you a piece of beautiful, hospitable and above all unique country.
Licider (gingerbread or honey cakes) hearts have always been a token of affection and love. Young man gave them to girls in order to show them their affection. Today, by giving it to someone special you can revive this old custom and show that person how much you care. Licider honey cakes are mostly heart shaped, but you can also buy a horse shoe or clover shaped cake for good luck, a little gingerbread house, stars or flowers to surprise the youngest ones. All the licider cakes are decorated with traditional colors and patterns, and they are handmade in shops all around Serbia.
It is well known that the specialties of Serbian cuisine won’t leave anyone indifferent and what makes them so special are the traditional recipes treasured for centuries. That is why we feel that each bite is a part of tradition. Why not taking home jams, “slatko” (which means “sweet”, a thin fruit preserve made of different fruit), “ajvar” (relish made from red bell peppers) or some traditional drink – “rakija” (a kind of plum brandy) or wine? Gift wrapped, these can be a very nice present.
If you prefer something really authentic, traditional folk costumes might be just the right thing for you. Šajkača or fes (traditional folk hats), eiprins, jelek (sleevless embroidered jacket), čakšire (traditional folk trousers) and opanci (traditional folk shoes), made by masters of old crafts transferring their skills from generation to generation, can be beautiful and unique gift. Different folk costumes, influenced by tradition of different nationalities living on this land, can be found in Serbia, and each costume is unique.
We recommend the jewelry with traditional Serbian motifs. Handmade earrings, necklaces and bracelets are perfect souvenirs that will make you feel like princesses at least for a moment.
City symbols and historical landmarks can be seen on magnets for fridges and bookmarkers, in snowballs, but also as models and miniatures. Traditional Serbian musical instruments like the frula, the gusle and the dvojnice are more than souvenirs, they will describe you the sounds of Serbia.
Each of the souvenirs treasures a piece of Serbia not letting you forget the time spent in Serbia.
