The Story

An iconic Belgrade restaurant where decades of history, refined hospitality and contemporary gastronomy come together beside Tašmajdan Park.

For generations, Madera has been much more than a restaurant. Set beside Tašmajdan Park, it has long been one of Belgrade’s best-known meeting places – a restaurant closely connected with the city’s cultural life, celebrated personalities and unmistakable urban spirit.

The story of Madera began in 1937, when a new kafana-restaurant opened on the site once occupied by the old Kafana Smederevo. It soon became a favourite gathering place for Belgrade’s artists, actors, musicians, journalists and devoted bohemians, many of whom became known simply as the “Maderaši.”

Today, Madera combines this rich heritage with a polished contemporary dining experience. Its menu brings together Serbian and international influences, with carefully prepared meat, fish, pasta and seasonal dishes. The elegant interior preserves the character of a classic city restaurant, while the spacious garden overlooking Tašmajdan Park offers a calm retreat from the busy boulevard.

Whether chosen for a leisurely lunch, an important celebration or an evening dinner, Madera continues to represent a distinctive side of Belgrade – sophisticated yet welcoming, historic yet very much part of the city’s present.

Few restaurants reflect Belgrade’s elegance, history and enduring social spirit quite like Madera.
