Traditional recipes, local ingredients and the generous hospitality of Golija come together in the mountain village of Rudno.
The Taste of Golija, Served at Home
Set in the village of Rudno, amid the forests and open landscapes of Mount Golija, Household Šekler offers an authentic encounter with the food and hospitality of rural Serbia. The family has welcomed visitors since 1991, gradually developing a traditional household where accommodation, nature and home cooking form part of the same experience.
At the heart of the property is Beli Bagrem, an ethno-style restaurant built from wood and stone, with a spacious enclosed terrace and room for more than one hundred guests. The atmosphere is warm and informal, shaped by traditional furnishings, regional details and the sense of arriving at a family table rather than a conventional restaurant.
The kitchen is guided by inherited recipes, seasonal produce and ingredients sourced from Golija and its surroundings. Buckwheat holds a particularly important place on the table, appearing in homemade bread, pies and pastries that have become signatures of the household. These are joined by traditional Serbian dishes, local dairy products and other specialities prepared according to the season and the wishes of guests.
A meal at Šekler is also an opportunity to experience Rudno, a peaceful mountain village positioned between the monasteries of Studenica and Gradac. Walks through the surrounding countryside, forest landscapes and the unhurried rhythm of village life turn lunch into part of a broader journey through one of Serbia’s most naturally and culturally distinctive mountain regions.
