The project “Serbia at the beginning of the Great War and the memory of the heroic deeds” was implemented with the assistance of “The Office for cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the region”.
The goal of the project is to improve the image and re-discover the truth about Serbia’s participation in the First World War.
To mark the 100th aniversary of the Great War, twenty-six articles about the most important moments, people and deeds which marked this period were written. The value and importance of this period is reflected primarily in the greatest Serbian victories, sufferings, trials and struggles that were placed in front of the Serbian people, the army and its leaders.
The very fact that the First World War began precisely by attacking Belgrade and that the first large-scale destruction occurred on the territory of Savamala and Dorcol (City districts of Belgrade) speaks about the important role of Serbia in the great conflict. Traces of the war are still visible at many locations both in Belgrade and throughout Serbia and because of this it is of great importance to present the real historical truth about those events.
Articles about the moments that had a decisive role in the further course of the war, people who have changed history and the deeds that marked this time of great destruction, represent a short guide to crucial moments in the First World War.
