At a time when travel is often reduced to quick weekend getaways, photo checklists, and “must-see” locations, we are increasingly forgetting that the most valuable experiences are not always the most famous ones, but the most genuine ones.
These are precisely the experiences hidden within the villages of Serbia – places where life is still measured by the rhythm of the seasons, where doors are not always locked, and where a guest is welcomed as part of the household rather than just a visitor passing through.
This series is born from the desire not only to rediscover such places, but also to preserve them. Serbia is a country deeply rooted in rural tradition, yet it is also a country where many villages are slowly disappearing-losing population, losing life, and losing the opportunity to share what they have to offer. With them, we risk losing more than homes and land; we lose knowledge, customs, flavors, and ways of life that have shaped the identity of this region for generations.

For that reason, the goal of this series goes far beyond travel inspiration. It aims to encourage a different way of thinking about tourism – one where we choose to stay in rural households instead of hotels, to eat food grown and prepared by our hosts, to support local producers, and to connect with the people whose stories give each place its soul. Rural tourism is not simply about staying in the countryside; it is about encountering an authentic Serbia – one that is not curated or staged, but real, warm, and deeply human.
Through this series, we will take you across around twenty villages throughout the country – some already recognized, others still waiting to be discovered. Each one carries its own story: of breathtaking landscapes, of hosts who preserve tradition, of dishes prepared in the same way for decades, and of new generations returning to the countryside, bringing fresh energy and new beginnings.

We believe that the future of sustainable tourism in Serbia lies precisely in these places. Visiting villages is not only an escape from the city-it is also a way to support local communities, preserve cultural heritage, and reconnect with the land that has shaped us.
This is an invitation to slow down, to travel differently, and to experience Serbia as it truly is – through its villages.
