Serbia wants to put its state in order on the model of EU members, wants to meet all requirements, but Serbia has a single condition for Europe –  never to ask of us to recognize the independence of Kosovo-Metohija (KiM), Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said on Monday evening.

We will not join any union that would demand that of us. I am grateful to all states that have not recognized the independence of Kosovo-Metohija, including our dear Greece, Nikolic told Corfu TV.

To a journalist’s question whether he liked the EU Serbia would like to join, Nikolic replied: “Do you like the EU you are a member of?”.

We are surrounded by the EU, and we want to put our state in order on the model of EU members.  It is not very likely that the EU will reach a consensus concerning our entry, among all member states, but we are negotiating, the president said.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic led a delegation to a ceremony marking the centenary of the Serbian army’s landing on the Ionian island of Corfu on Monday.
