Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Luciano Suriani, delegate for papal diplomatic representations, as apostolic nuncio in Serbia, the Holy See press office said in a release on Monday.

Suriani entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1990, and worked in the papal diplomatic missions to Ivory Coast, Switzerland, Bolivia, the Section for Relations with States at the Secretariat of State, and the Nunciature to Italy.

In Serbia, he is succeeding Archbishop Orlando Antonini, whose term ended in September. Besides Italian, he also speaks Spanish, French and English.
