Serbia is a country with quite a turbulent history, located on the important crossroads where the interests of many great forces intertwined throughout history, therefore making it a country where many wars had raged.

In such Serbia heroism was often a matter of honor, love for the country and a reflection of the struggle for its survival.

Under these circumstances, starting with the creation of the medieval Serbian state up until today, a selected few have singled out and had even inspired the enemies they fought against with their courage. Heroes and heroines of Serbia deserve the eternal glory, granted for their humanity and selfless sacrifices that even different policies and bygone centuries could not erase. Their deeds will forever make them exceptional and worth the mention.

Many historical figures indebted the Serbian people without the use of swords and muskets. With their energy and wisdom they cleared the path for education, enlightenment, and faith, achieving with diplomacy what war never could. Many of them were, in a sense, spiritual leaders of the people who lifted their spirits and guided them through the most difficult times of war, poverty and disease.

We dedicate this column to all the Serbian heroes and important historical figures whose heroic deeds and acts of bravery left a colossal mark in this country’s history.
