Women’s handball championship was completed last night at Kombank Arena in Belgrade. Women’s handball team of Serbia won the silver medal. The Brazilian national team won the gold medal, while girls from Denmark take home the bronze medal.

The Serbian national team won the silver medal on the World Championship in Serbia. The team of Saša Bošković lose against Brazilian team with 20:22 (11:13) in front of 19.467 spectators in the great match in the “Kombank Arena”.

Brazil was the dominant team during the majority of the match, that finished with an exciting victory. This victory marks Brazil’s greatest success in women’s handball.

Denmark took the bronze by beating Poland 30-26 (12-15) earlier in the day.

The last lead of the host team was seen in the 24th minute (10:9), followed by a Brazilian series 4:0 by the end of the half time the were going for the gold medal. The guest had a great continuation in the atmosphere of one of the greatest sports hall in Europe, and arrived to 16:11.

It was followed by a great Serbian play, with a series of 4:0, with which they came back to the match on the wings of their fans. There was an equalizer in the 56th minute on the result 19:19.

The last equalizer was brought by Andrea Lekic with a goal for 20:20. That was the last Serbian goal on this match, In the last three minutes Brazil had a goal with a player less, and after a miss by Dragana Cvijic, Ana Rodriguez finished the match in the following attack for 22:20 – one minute before the end.

Serbian coach Saša Bošković said that Brazil deservedly won the gold, but that he is proud of his team.

“Brazil was a little bit better than us and deserved the title of champions. I am even more proud of my girls that the Brazilian coach is of his.”

MVP of WWCH 2013, Eduarda Amorim said that her team did not expect a gold medal, but they wanted it.

“I am really happy for the gold. We dreamed of getting a medal, any medal, but it wasn’t until the second half of tonight’s game that we had the belief that we could capture the gold all for ourselves. Every single one of my teammates deserved this medal and I am proud that we got it.”

Serbian team captain, Andrea Lekić said:

“The Brazilian team played on the level and deserved what they got. I am proud of my girls because we trained for this our entire lives. I would also want to thank the Serbian audience because they showed the game in the right light. I will remember this all my life.”
