Serbia have become European champions for the third time in a row, after beating Montenegro 10-8 (1-3, 2-1, 3-2, 4-2) in an exciting 2016 Men’s European Water Polo Championship final in Belgrade on Saturday.

Serbia beat the great rival and became champion of the Old Continent for the seventh time in a packed Kombank Arena, before 16,000 spectators, which in itself is a new European record.

Serbian Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic congratulated the team on winning the championship.

“Bravo champions! Thank you once again for making us proud and proving that the European throne is yours! It was a privilege to watch and support you. Thanks to everyone for supporting our champions and sending out a most beautiful image of Serbia from Arena,” the Ministry of Youth and Sports cited Udovicic as saying in a release.
