A nationwide state of emergency is in place to facilitate and expedite through preventive measures the actions by all authorities that are aimed at protecting human lives and property and dealing with the consequences of floods.
The Interior Ministry’s Emergency Situations Sector has evacuated 171 people from flood-hit regions.
According to the national weather service, the areas surrounding Mt Zlatibor, Mt Kopaonik, Kraljevo, Valjevo, Sjenica, Pozega, Mt Crni vrh and Vranje have seen the highest amounts of rainfall since midnight.
Around 30 litres of rain per sq metre have been registered over the past 24 hours, the head of the Emergency Situations Sector Predrag Maric told Tanjug.
