Clemens Toennies, the owner of Germany’s meat producer Toennies, confirmed in Belgrade Tuesday that he intends to set up a meat production operation in Serbia and agreed with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic the next steps in the company’s arrival in Serbia, the most important ones being acquisition of work permits and training for local staff.

An agreement with the company is being prepared for June, Vucic told a press conference.

Toennies said that a company team is already working on designing 10 farms in Serbia, noting that his arrival will generate work for Serbian meat producers, rather than stifle production.

Toennies’ intention is to produce a total of four million pigs at his farms, most of which would be purchased from our farmers, Vucic said.

The Serbian government and Toennies – Europe’s largest meat producer – signed a MoU last April.
