Bogdan Dundjerski has built the Fantast palace, one of the most beautiful palaces in Serbia, 100 years ago. He did it, according to some stories, just to prove he hasn’t gone bankrupt.
The Fantast palace is a right place for all those romantic souls regretting for not being born at the time of glamorous courts and balls. Spend a weekend in one of the most beautiful palaces in Serbia and feel as royalty while walking through spacious halls, riding horses or enjoying the enchanting parks around it.
When Bogdan Dundjerski, one of the richest people in Serbia at that time, built this palace in the early 20th century, he never thought that one day it would become a luxury hotel and perfect getaway for all those seeking a break from reality in a fairy tale ambient.
The story says that Bogdan built the house “out of spite”, to show his power and wealth to all those claiming that he had bankrupted. And so he built a palace from his dreams that even today stands as one-of-a-kind in the entire region.
Monumental white building with four towers from which kilometers of the Pannonian plain can be seen, remained to testify of Bogdan Dundjerski, a man whose family had built numerous palaces manor houses, none of which is so beautiful and unique as the Fantast palace. Its owner was buried right here, in the Chapel near the house, at the place of his dreams.
The Fantast palace is located in Central Vojvodina, 14 kilometers from the town of Bečej and 60 kilometers from the city of Novi Sad. It is the monument of great cultural significance. This beautiful building was completed in 1925, and in 1983 it was transformed into a luxury hotel. The complex as a whole is 65 acres in area.
Its owner Bogdan Dundjerski has never married and had no children. He was a bohemian his whole life, and one of his great passions was horsemanship. He had also built a stud-farm for race-horses that is still active today.
The very house was named after Bogdan’s best horse – Fantast. The stud-farm has bred some of the most famous race horses in the entire region. Once it occupied more than the half of the entire estate and it had around 1400 horses.
Today, this is one of top destinations for all those who love horseback riding. There are around 80 thoroughbred horses in six stables, and there is also a racing track. The school of riding is organized for all beginners. The more experienced ones can enjoy riding in the vast plain of Vojvodina.
Beside the house and the stables, visitors can also visit a little house, the chapel of Saint George and the beautiful park where the time has stopped somewhere in the early 20th century. Recently, tennis courts and a landing field for small aircraft have been built. The Fantast palace offers visitors the unique combination of old charm and modern comfort.
