European Council President Donald Tusk will pay a visit to Belgrade on Friday to meet with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, the European Council website said.

Tusk and Vucic are scheduled to meet at 7 pm.

Tusk is visiting the countries of the Balkan route, through which refugees from Syria, Iraq and other countries are arriving in Western Europe.

Initially, Belgrade had not been on the schedule of the visit.

The visit to the countries of the Balkan route is taking place ahead of the March 7 EU-Turkey summit.

An earlier statement from Tusk’s office said that during the visit he will “continue building a common European consensus on how to handle the migration crisis” and “help prepare for the summit with Turkey and the meetings of EU leaders” on March 7 and 17-18.
