So, the Easter and May Day holiday madness has passed, and now everyone’s minds are torn. Some are full of energy and want to continue the momentum, while others need to relax from the time they spent “relaxing” with their family and friends. Fortunately, Serbia has some amazing solutions for everyone!

1. The May sun, soft green grass, a picnic mat and nothing else

Although most of us couldn’t wait for the Easter and May Day holidays to take a break from work and relax, the fact is nobody really had any rest during them. In Serbia, the first days of May are reserved for the “Prvomajski uranak” festivities. And that means non-stop fun with family and friends. The perfect way to truly relax and rewind, and keep the positive vibes gathered during the holidays, is to head out to one of the many Serbian picnic sites.

Just because May Day ended, doesn’t mean the barbequing has to stop! And what better way is there to spend a sunny May than to set up a grill, make a picnic and enjoy Serbian nature and food? You can find perfect picnic spots and tourist resorts in so many places in Serbia, such as the Deliblato Sands, Fruška Gora, Obedska bara, Mokra Gora, Zasavica and on basically all of Serbia’s lakes and mountains.

2. Stretch your legs and expand your horizons

Yes, you can choose to spread a picnic mat, soak up the sun and relax in the nature. Or, you could use that positive energy and experience the Serbian outdoors in a different way. A more active, and perhaps even more attractive, approach to recreation is hiking. And Serbia is the perfect place to do it!

With thousands of hiking and mountaineering trails of different difficulty and their simply magnificent nature, Serbian mountains and canyons are god’s gift for trekkers, hikers and all those who like to be on the move and crave a pinch or two of adrenaline. Challenge your body and expand your mind by setting course to mt. Kopaonik, Zlatibor, the Uvac special nature reserve, the Đerdap gorge, Lazar’s canyon, and of course the one and only Tara national park. And the reward: a million-dollar view!

3. Use the warm weather and travel to the past

Still, such outdoor activities might not be everyone’s cup of tea. The beautiful weather that awaits us in May can be used to go back in time and take a glimpse of the past. No, you don’t need to have time-machine. You just need to be in Serbia!

Serbia is a country with a rich history and her tumultuous past has left her with countless archeological sites, monuments, fortresses and age old-castles. In Lepenski vir, Vinča, Felix Romuliana and Justiniana Prima, you can enter the home of ancient civilizations. Or, if you’re more of a medieval enthusiast you can walk the stone steps of the Maglič, Golubac, Soko Grad, Kalemegdan or Petrovaradin fortress. They’ll leave you breathless, that we promise you.

4. The most visited cultural event – The Museum Night (May 21)

Now for something we’ve all been waiting for – “The Night of the Museums” – the star of all cultural manifestations in May! This year, on the 21st of May, from 5 pm to 1 am, the 13t Museum Night will keep Serbia awake with a multitude of interesting programmes designed to entertain, educate and amaze the audience. And with this year’s motto “Eyes Open to the Night”, this cultural treat is bound to keep your eyes wide open till the early morning.

With a total of 419 events, you only have to pick a city and enjoy this one-of-a-kind spectacle!

5. The International Cycling Race “Tour de Serbie” (May 25-28)

For all those who didn’t know – Serbia has its own “Tour de France”. The “Tour de Serbie” is a road bicycle race first held in the distant 1939. Now it takes place every year and with a noble cause, too. This racing competition actively contributes in spreading a positive impression of Serbia throughout the world.

With the motto “Cycling and tourism – Serbian brands face the world”, the goal of this year’s race is the affirmation of Serbia’s tourism and economic wealth. As it is impossible not to love Serbia and the natural beauties that this race promotes, it is hard not to want to endorse such an event. So, why not show your support by cheering on the participants or being one yourself?
