In the depths of a Serbian forest, one tree hides a secret. Even though this oak tree looks like a home of a hobbit or of some other fairy-tale creature, its real purpose is quite different.

It’s not a home of a lonesome wizard, nor a tree house, it is in fact a house of God.

Yes, it is a church!

This miniature church was made by Dragoljub Krstić in 1991, and it is located in the village of Jovac, near Vladičin Han, at the very south of Serbia.

This unusual church of St. Panteleimon is special not only because it was built in a tree, but because it was built in an oak tree, which bears special meaning in Slavic and Serbian mythology.

The oak was considered a sacred tree and was linked to the old pagan god Perun.

Regardless of the artist’s reason for building this church, it is impossible to deny its uniqueness and beauty.

It is truly an enchanting little shrine in nature’s embrace.
