The US magazine Swimming World has named Serbian water polo international Dusko Pijetlovic the world’s best water polo player.

The Pro Recco centre-forward received the recognition after media named him the best player at the World Cup in Kazan, where Serbia won the gold medal.

“I am honoured, but I have to say that anyone from our national team could have won that recognition,” the Water Polo Federation of Serbia quoted Pijetlovic as saying.

Pijetlovic, who will play at next year’s Rio Olympics, only needs an Olympic gold to complete his rich collection of silverware.
Pijetlovic started his career at Vojvodina and later played for Sintez, Partizan and Red Star, winning the Euroleague with the latter two clubs.

He has also twice won the European club title with Pro Recco, which he rejoined last year for the second time.
