The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) decided to back the International Rescue Committee (IRC) with EUR 311,000, in an effort to strengthen capacities of local partners so as to ensure the comprehensive protection for refugees in Serbia.

The protection of refugees is aimed, among other things, at spreading information as there is a great need for providing refugees with accurate and up-to-date data so that they can make informed decisions and continue their trips safely.

The backing will be offered in partnership with Serbian humanitarian NGOs, and in coordination with the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and UNHCR, the Swedish government said in a release.

Serbia has had a constructive approach to this refugee crisis, and we want to back the effort, said Torgny Svenungsson from the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade.
