The bid submitted for the Smederevo steel mill by China’s HBIS is valid, and the plant can be purchased for no less than EUR 45.7 million, Serbian Minister of Economy Zeljko Sertic said Saturday.

“As the Ministry of Economy, we decided that the bid is valid and the opening of the financial part of the bid is scheduled for Tuesday. We had the obligation to notify the company as well, and their representatives will be at the Ministry on Tuesday,” Sertic told the RTS.

All financial and business details, as well as details concerning redundancy programmes, will be assessed on that day, he added.

Sertic said that he is optimistic and confident that no “plan B” is required for the mill at this time despite recent developments in the global steel industry.
