Serbia-Russia relations are developing successfully in all areas, Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov agreed on Friday.

Russia is one of Serbia’s most important strategic partners and Belgrade is thankful to Moscow for its support in international organisations on the issue of Kosovo, Tass quoted Dacic as saying before the meeting with Lavrov.

“If not for Russia, Serbia would have been in a much worse situation on the issue of Kosovo,” said Dacic, who is on a two-day visit to Moscow.

We plan to develop bilateral relations further and we are preparing to sign several bilateral agreements and memorandums, he said.

Moscow and Belgrade are successfully developing political, economic, military and technical cooperation, Lavrov said at the beginning of the meeting.

Russia will help Serbia deal with the migrant crisis, he also said after the meeting, noting that the Russian-Serbian humanitarian centre in Nis has provided temporary accommodation for migrants.

Lavrov: EU should influence Pristina to establish Community

MOSCOW – The European Union should influence Pristina to implement agreements on establishing the Community of Serb municipalities in Kosovo, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday after a meeting with Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.

“Unfortunately, the rights of Serb population in this place (Kosovo) are violated daily, agreements reached on establishing Serb municipalities
in Kosovo back in August of last year with EU mediation are sabotaged,” Tass quoted Lavrov as saying.

Sabotaging practical implementation of these agreements is not prompting a coherent reaction from Brussels, he said.

“We are concerned with this. We think that it is necessary for the EU to confirm its reputation as an active mediator and influence Pristina, make Kosovar-Albanian leaders fulfil what they signed,” he added.

He also said that Moscow appreciates Serbia’s refusal to join the EU sanctions against Russia.

Dacic: Serbia not planning to join NATO

MOSCOW – Serbia is not planning to join NATO and this reflects the position of most Serbian citizens, Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in Moscow Friday after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

No one in the government has initiated Serbia’s membership in NATO – our cooperation and relations with NATO remain at partnership level in the name of peace, and are maintained based on an individual plan for countries that do not want to become NATO members, Tass quoted Dacic as saying.

Most Serbian citizens are against our country’s membership in the alliance, Dacic noted.

Serbia wants to become an EU member state – however, this can in no way threaten our good relations with Russia, Dacic also said.

After the meeting with Dacic, Lavrov said that Serbia has confirmed to Russia that it will not be taking part in NATO activities “that have an
anti-Russian character,” the agency reported.
