The Serbia men’s national water polo team beat Croatia 13-6 (3-1, 4-2, 5-1, 1-2) in the European Water Polo Championship Group B Round 1 at Belgrade’s Kombank Arena late Sunday, making a perfect start to its title defence campaign.

In front of 11,500 supporters, Serbia defeated the reigning Olympic champions without difficulty, justifying the role of top favourites in the quest for a third consecutive European gold.

With three goals each, Dusan Mandic and Andrija Prlainovic lead the scoring for Serbia, Stefan Mitrovic netted twice, while Andjelo Setka scored two goals for Croatia.

Serbia will face Malta in the next round on Tuesday, with Croatia to play France.
