Eliminating the consequences of the expropriation of property from Holocaust victims who have no living legitimate heirs will contribute to a greater understanding of human rights, which is crucial for fighting and preventing racial and religious discrimination, Serbian Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic said Wednesday.

At the beginning of a parliamentary debate on a bill on the matter, he said that it will complete the legislative framework of restitution.

Adopting the bill is envisioned by a national programme for adopting the EU acquis and the government’s annual plan for 2016, he said.

“In addition to all that represents the legal foundation for adopting the bill, there is something that can be called a moral obligation that strengthens the anti-fascist identity of our state and nation, a kind of an obligation towards Jews who dedicated their lives and work to our Serbia,” he said.
