Serbia is on the right track but its biggest challenge will be to continue to make progress politically and economically, says US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott.

Tough issues and tough decisions will be ahead for Serbia over the next year and that will be Serbia’s biggest challenge – to continue to progress politically, as well as economically, Scott said in an interview to the Alo daily.

Structural reforms and dealing with state-owned companies such as the Bor mining and smelting complex, Srbijagas and the Smederevo steel mill will be the most difficult, Scott said.

Those problems affect the citizens because the subsidies for those companies are paid for by everyone, he said.

Speaking about potential new US investments in Serbia, Scott said that several US companies are interested in investing in the country, in particular in its mining industry.
