A rally of support for Citizens’ Initiative SNP leader Oliver Ivanovic, who was sentenced to nine years in prison in Kosovo-Metohija (KiM) two days ago, was staged in Belgrade’s Nikola Pasic Square Saturday and its participants condemned what they called an attempt of “political killing” of Ivanovic and “beheading” the Serbs in KiM.

The rally was symbolically started at 12:44 p.m. and Ivanovic’s lawyer Nebojsa Vlajic told those gathered that Ivanovic had been given the verdict without a single witness being found in 15 years to accuse him of a war crime.

“All the witnesses were Albanians and none of directly accused Ivanovic,” Vlajic said, adding that Ivanovic advocated for peace and tolerance and the verdict was not helping those efforts.

He said the verdict had destroyed what little hope was left of believing it was possible to live normally in Kosovo.

Vlajic also said that the proceedings were not yet over and that the struggle to have Ivanovic released would continue.
