Vucic said that he had talked with Hahn about Serbia’s pending obligations and the opening of chapters on December 14.
“We have worked a lot to achieve this, and much is yet to be done,” Vucic said at a joint news conference with Hahn, thanking the Commissioner on support for Serbia along its EU path.
It is Serbia’s objective to complete the tough reforms before the end of 2019, and then it would be up to the EU to decide on our membership, Vucic said.
Difficult work lies ahead of Serbia in relation to Chapter 35, which deals with Kosovo-Metohija, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday, underlining the need for cooperation with ethnic Albanians for building a common future.
Asked whether he expected the EU’s negotiation position to raise the issue of Kosovo’s status, Vucic said after a meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn in Belgrade that he hoped this would not be the case.
“Chapter 35 is tough. We do not deny that. However, we are here to create our own future. I hope that attacks on Serbia will stop, but for the most part we have managed to ensure safety,” Vucic said.
“We will have to cooperate with them (ethnic Albanians) to preserve stability in the region, if we want a successful Serbia, in economic and all other terms,” he said.
