The opposition is close to the decision to join forces for snap parliamentary elections, leader of the Democratic Party (DS) Bojan Pajtic said on Tuesday evening.

After a meeting of the opposition, which brought together representatives of 19 parties and two trade unions, Pajtic said that they would define a model in which they would stand for election in the next meeting, due to be held in several days.

“We have gathered to bring an end to the Aleksandar Vucic regime – that is a priority for all of us. Serbia has an undemocratic, authoritarian government, which acts to the detriment of citizens every day,” Pajtic told reporters, reading a joint statement following the meeting that lasted over two and a half hours.

He said that all representatives of the parties pledged in the meeting that they would not forge coalitions with those currently in power.
