Every autumn, in the heart of Šumadija, the town of Topola becomes the capital of grapes, wine, and tradition. The Oplenac Harvest Festival, one of the oldest and largest events dedicated to winemaking in Serbia, will take place this year from October 10th to 12th, bringing together thousands of visitors from across the country and abroad.
The first Oplenac Harvest Festival was held in 1962, when Šumadija wanted to present its rich vineyards and winemaking traditions, rooted in the era of King Peter I Karađorđević and his son, King Alexander I, who established royal vineyards on Oplenac Hill. Since then, the festival has become a true symbol of cultural identity, folk customs, and the hospitality of Šumadija.
Today, Oplenac Harvest is not only a fair of wine and grapes but also a festival of folk art, handicrafts, music, and traditions, turning Topola into a vibrant stage of Serbian heritage.
During the festival, Topola’s streets are filled with colorful stalls, aromas of traditional food, and sounds of folk music. The program is diverse and engaging:
The Oplenac Harvest Festival is more than just an event – it is the soul of Šumadija. It combines tradition and modern culture, local and international experiences, customs and artistry, wine and song.
If you want to experience authentic Serbian spirit, taste fine wines and homemade specialties, and enjoy lively folk performances, Topola and the Oplenac Harvest Festival in October are the perfect destination.
