Novi Sad hosted its first youth forum in the City Hall on Tuesday, during which it was made public that the city had applied for the 2019 European Youth Capital.

The declaration ceremony brought together a large number of representatives of youth organizations – participants of the forum, Minister of Youth and Sport Vanja Udovicic, Novi Sad Mayor Milos Vucevic, Novi Sad University Rector Dusan Nikolic and member of the Novi Sad City Council responsible for sport and youth Predrag Svilar.

The mayor said that Novi Sad was a candidate for the 2018 European Youth Capital and made it to the top five cities, and described it as a huge success.

“I can only say that Novi Sad has already become a youth capital, and whether this will be made official in 2019 and 2020 -that is less important,” Vucevic said.

The European Youth Capital is a title awarded to a European city for the period of one year, during which it is given the chance to showcase, through a multi-faceted programme, its youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development.
