The Society for the Construction of the Church of Saint Sava celebrated 120 years of existence Monday, and Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said on the occasion that the idea of erecting the St. Sava Church was larger than ourselves and that the commitment to building that unique common house for all was a commitment to Serbia, and therefore a task for all time.

The temple has gone beyond the story of a building in brick and stone to become a metaphor for our existence, hope, stay and survival, a measure of our Christian commitment, a human response to the historical narrative about the ascension of the people and the fatherland, our very essence.

Nikolic said that the temple was and would continue to be our Noah’s Ark, in which we could find salvation from the historical floods, the world wars, “Golgothas” and temptations.
