Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mount Avala near Belgrade as part of Statehood Day celebrations on Monday.

“On Sretenje (Orthodox Candlemas) in 1804, Serbia opened the doors to freedom. On Sretenje in 1835, it opened the doors to democracy. In honor, glory and praise of our ancestors, to teach us, and for our descendants. Eternal is Serbia,” Nikolic wrote in the visitor’s book.
