Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla airport will tighten security measures, setting up security screening at every gate at the terminal, Acting General Director of the airport Sasa Vlaisavljevic told Tanjug Tuesday.

“Emergency measures will be taken. We will have security screening checkpoints, with three X-ray machines and a metal detector, set up at every gate. It means that only two entrances to the airport building will be open and the rest will be closed,” Vlaisavljevic said.

Security is being tightened following the terrorist attacks at Brussels airport today.

Vlaisavljevic said that the Belgrade airport, along with other services, beginning with the police, was investing in security the most and would invest more than RSD 1 billion in it during the year.

“At this moment I can only apologize to our passengers as in the coming period – days, weeks and months – the procedure and technology of admitting passengers and luggage will be slowed down,” Vlaisavljevic said, stressing that the security of passengers came first.
