Appreciated for his dedication in the field, the captain of “Manchester United” Nemanja Vidić is one of the best football players in the world.

Playing for the English football giant Manchester United, in a course of six years the Serbian football player Nemanja Vidić (30) has won three consecutive Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Club Cup in 2008.

Until recently Vidić was also the member of the Serbian national team, but today he’s the successful leader of “Red Devils”. He was selected for the ideal team of Premier League of all times on the position of the central defensive player.

Nemanja Vidić was born in 1981 in the town of Užice and he started his football career as a seven year old in a local football club “Jedinstvo Užice”, alongside his older brother Dušan. When he was 12 he transferred to “Sloboda”, and two and a half years later he became the member of “Red Star Belgrade” youth team. He started his senior career on a season-long loan deal at “Spartak” Subotica in 2000.

After this loan deal expired, he returned to the Red Star’s “Marakana” stadium and played regularly in the top-flight Yugoslav League with coach Zoran Filipović. With “Red Star” team he won the 2001/02 Yugoslav Cup.

His first match for the Yugoslav national team managed and coached by Dejan Savićević was in October 2002 against Italy in the qualifications for Euro 2004. He played 54 matches for the national team and scored 2 goals in his career.

In 2004 Nemanja Vidić transferred to “Spartak Moscow”. The details of this transfer weren’t made public, but it was announced that Vidić had became the most expensive defensive player in the history of Russian Premier League.

Two years later, Vidić signed for “Manchester United” for a fee of 10,25 million €. He joined the club in January 2006 playing against “Blackburn”. He was assigned the number 15 shirt. He justified the entrusted confidence by winning four titles of English Premier League in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. At that time, his fellow colleagues included him in the ideal team of Premier League, and he was named the best player of Premier League in 2009 and 2011.

At the beginning of September 2010 Nemanja Vidić became the captain of “Manchester United”, thus becoming only the second foreigner to be given such honor in the history of “Red Devils”.

Vidić is respected for his endurance, unique dedication and besides being a strong defensive player, he represents a great threat for the goal of every opponent. Soon he became the idol of “Manchester United” fans who, due to such play, often compare him with the club’s legend Steve Bruce.

Nemanja Vidić was the member of the team of Serbia and Montenegro at the World Championship in 2006, but he didn’t get a chance to play any matches as he was suspended during the qualifications. On June 12th he had a major knee injury and he missed the matches with Argentina and Ivory Coast

He was twice selected for the ideal world team in 2007 and 2008 by the journalists of the prominent French sport magazine “L’Equipe”.
