The EU’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Thursday that Serbia could expect two chapters in EU entry talks to be opened on December 14 – Chapters 32 and 35.

“Several months ago, I said in Belgrade that chapters have to be opened before the end of the year, and now I am saying that on December 14, we can tick the box – done. More intensive cooperation lies ahead- that is important for the Serbian people and for the EU,” Mogherini said at a joint press conference after a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

As far as the Brussels dialogue is concerned, you know you can count on me personally and the EU to guarantee a smooth implementation of the agreements and continuation of the dialogue, said Mogherini, who is taking part in the OSCE Ministerial Council in Belgrade.

PM: Serbia has high expectations of future ties with EU

Serbian officials have high expectations of the intergovernmental conference set to take place in Brussels on Dec. 14, when the decision is expected to be taken concerning the opening of negotiation chapters, but also what lies ahead in relations between Serbia and the European Union, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday.

After a meeting with the EU’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, Vucic said that they also discussed ways to overcome “not a deadlock, but rather changes in the dialogue” with Pristina.

The prime minister made it clear that Belgrade wanted further dialogue to address concrete issues affecting lives of Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija.

“We are particularly interested in a greater freedom of movement, Air Serbia planes landing at Pristina’s airport, in crossing the administrative line faster,” Vucic said.
