The proposed amendments to the Agricultural Land Act envision no sales of land to foreign nationals, Serbian Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic said on Tuesday.

Agricultural land will only be available for purchase to Serbian agricultural businesses and small and medium-sized farms and the amendments will help improve the productivity and efficiency in the use of state-owned land, the minister said.

Presenting the amendments in the Serbian parliament, she said that the act envisions lease of up to 30 percent of arable state-owned land and that the amendments will make it possible to attract investments in agricultural production, create jobs and boost exports.

Serbia has around 5 billion hectares of agricultural land, Bogosavljevic Boskovic said.
