The reform process within Serbia’s national rail operator is being successfully carried out to include rightsizing measures, Transportation Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said, noting that over 2,000 jobs would be cut.

“We embarked on the reform of the rail company with the IMF and the government’s decision. Our objective is not to reduce the number of employees, but rather to make it more lean. The reform implies investment in infrastructure and we invest in fast railways and new trains,” Mihajlovic told reporters after a meeting with the IMF Mission in the Serbian government building.

Today’s meeting with IMF representatives also brought together the directors of Serbian Railways, Corridors of Serbia and Roads of Serbia, with the restructuring of the rail operator as the most important topic.
