Assistant Health Minister Zoran Mihailovic said that the Japanese government’s donations to the Serbian health care sector totaled EUR 108m, and noted that around 100 professionals from Serbia had undergone medical trainings in Japan, mostly for cancer disease treatment.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed. In all adverse circumstances that we have faced in the past 15 years, Japan has proved to be a true and sincere friend,” he said on Tuesday after First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Serbia Akihito Teruuchi presented the health care center in Svilajnac, central Serbia, with the medical devices: X ray, ultrasound, EKG, CTG, inhaler, worth EUR 71,750 in total.

“The donations together with a debt write-off of around 84 m make up almost EUR 200 m,” Mihailovic said, thanking the people of Japan on behalf of the Serbian health ministry.
