Migrants accomodated in a camp in Adasevci near Sid in northwest Serbia were delivered aid in summer clothing, a donation of Japanese company Uniqlo, on Thursday.

Taking part in the aid delivery ceremony, organized by UNICEF, was Japanese Ambassador Juichi Takahara.

As Japanese Ambassador to Serbia, I am proud that a Japanese company offered aid to children on their thorny path in this way, Takahara said.

There are fewer than 40 migrants, mostly women and children, in Adasevci at the moment.

A mother of four boys at the one-stop center there told Tanjug that they needed the aid as the money and other property they had had when they had started their journey from Syria had been exhausted.

Serbia’s Commissioner for Refugees Vladimir Cucic thanked the Japanese government for their timely response and said that the refugees who were currently accomodated in the center in Adasevci had missed the last train that had departed about four days before, which had determined their fate to a large extent.

The Japanese ambassador, representatives of the UNHCR and UNICEF and Cucic also visited a camp for temporary migrants Principovac, north of Sid, and handed aid to over 70 migrant children.
