Mega Leks will most likely cede its Eurocup Basketball spot to Partizan, with Red Star certain to play in the Euroleague next season.

Miodrag Raznatovic, Mladjan Silobad and Nebojsa Covic – the chief executives of the three clubs – revealed this in an RTS talk show Monday.

“If Mega becomes champion of the (regional) ABA League, it will definitely not play the Euroleague. That is clear because it does not meet the conditions, which are very precise and complicated. We will most likely not play in the Eurocup either, but we still have not made a decision.

We will stick to our concept of developing young players and that does not fit in with having two games a week. In addition, Partizan playing in Europe is in the interest of Serbian basketball”, Raznatovic said.

Silobad confirmed that Euroleague Basketball CEO Jordi Bertomeu has promised a Eurocup spot to Partizan if Mega bows out.

“Red Star is thinking exclusively about the Euroleague, there have been discussions about a three-year contract, but we also asked Bertomeu for a 10-year contract. When the time comes, we will say what we have agreed,” said Covic, whose club is the other ABA League finalist.
