The defense team in a trial of five Serbs, including the leader of the Citizens’ Initiative SDP Oliver Ivanovic, finished its closing statement at the Kosovska Mitrovica Basic Court on Monday, marking the end of the main hearing in the trial which lasted nearly two years.

Lawyer Ljubomir Pantovic told Tanjug that a verdict would be announced on Thursday.

He said that Ivanovic and retired Serbian police colonelof Dragoljub Delibasic had been given extension of detention for one more month, something the judges had had to do lest they should send a message about the verdict being reached even before it was actually reached.

Lawyer Nebojsa Vlajic told Tanjug earlier that he expected a verdict of acquittal, which seems to be the only possible one, since the prosecution had offered no evidence to corroborate the allegations in the indictment.
