Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic met with Executive Director for Europe and Eurasia Global Markets at the U.S. Department of Commerce Skip Jones to discuss ways to improve overall economic cooperation between the two countries and find opportunities to increase trade.

Jones said that the U.S. business community saw great opportunities to expand economic cooperation with Serbia in the areas of information and communication technologies, automotive industry, pharmaceutical industry, and energy and infrastructure, the industry branches that can make trade between the two countries continuously grow, Ljajic’s office said in a release.

Ljajic said that bilateral cooperation in the field of telecommunications was steadily improving, pointing to a project of introducing wireless Internet in all primary and secondary schools in Serbia and connecting schools through a single information system network, which should be implemented by the Serbian government and U.S. company CISCO very soon.

Ljajic and Jones agreed that signing an intergovernmental agreement on promotion and protection of investments, the drafting of which is under way, would be a good step towards improving the business climate between the two countries.
