UNESCO General Conference declined the application of accepting Kosovo in this organization due to not having the necessary two-third majority.

For Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO voted 92 countries, 50 countries voted against it, and 29 countries were abstinent. The necessary two-third majority would be 95 votes, so they lacked in 3 votes.

As a reminder, application for Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO was formally submitted by Albania, and was supported by 45 countries at the time. Petition “No Kosovo in UNESCO” which was founded in October, was signed by more than 140 000 people.
