U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby stated on Monday that since the start of his term of office the relations between two countries have improved, adding that Serbia has showed skill in tackling problems, but that its primary goal should be to strengthen its economy.

I believe we have a good relationship with the government, we often meet and I believe that we have helped Serbia in many ways. The country needs to work on the rule of law – the judiciary is slow, the financial situation in the media is difficult and you have to do more against corruption, Kirby said for Belgrade TV Pink.

Stressing that poverty and unemployment are the major problems in Serbia and the region, Kirby commended the government’s efforts to enhance the fiscal policy and ensure jobs for people.
