When the mighty forest rose from a stone, that’s when the mountain in the Southwestern Serbia which singled out of everything that surrounds it with its miraculous features was founded. No matter whether the belief about the miraculous foundation was true or not, what’s obvious at a first glimpse of its thick forests and clear sources is that it is truly one of the most beautiful places in Serbia.
Wondering why Kamena Gora is so special? Maybe it is for the best to start with its history followed by numerous myths and legends. The most of them are related to the ancient habitant of this vivid place, who adores the hill from which a fascinating view is being spread around. It is about the oldest pine in Serbia called Old or Holy pine by the residents.
This unusual tree once represented a meeting point, and due to the lack of church, a place for a Holy Communion and worships. Today, this pine represents a miracle which hasn’t been torn by people nor time. It stayed and became a friend to those who used to stand, part, fight and make up, talk or rest under its branched crowns.
With a height of 13m and a crown of 18m, a Holy pine symbolizes a greatness, courage and endurance which are rarely seen.
But, not only endurance and size are what characterize this unusual tree. One of its specificities lies also in the root which one branch of spruce decided to put down exactly in its tree. A cause of this natural phenomenon remained unknown.
Legend says that inside the pine there is a message left by former residents of Kamena Gora. In the letter are supposedly reasons why they left sealed with a vax. The old transcript has eventually ingrown to the tree, leaving behind a forever kept secret.
Besides this resident old more than half a century, people from Kamena Gora can be proud of other unique riches that characterize their area. Those are, among everything else, vivid and unpredictable landscapes that hide surprises at every step.

Kamena Gora is a mountain and a settlement which is settled near Prijepolje, in the extreme Southwest of Serbia and North of Montenegro. It is at the above sea level of 800-1500m, and its highest peak is Ravna Gora.
Among numerous natural riches, Kamena Gora is characterized by miscellaneous animal kingdom. It is a home of rare and interesting species which have found what they need in the untouched nature. The area is suitable for development of livestock breeding and it is obvious because the meadows are full of flocks of sheep, goats and other domestic animals taken out to a graze.
In the vicinity of this village which is surrounded by authentic old houses and log cabins, there is a real small open-air museum or Ethno village Guvnište. Surrounded by tens of small sources and wells, not far away from Guvnište, there is a Kovčica camp with a source of the same name and a lake.
